Breaking Down the Denver Broncos Problems under McDaniel’s

Breaking down the Denver Broncos problems is not a difficult task. There appear to be many problems, but really it boils down to a basic problem with player replacement and selection.

Two years ago the Broncos under Mike Shanahan had a top offense that scored a middling number of points. That offense consistently cranked out thousand yard rushers using a zone blocking scheme. The passing portion of the offense was also excellent. Shanahan’s offenses were known for quickly scoring, thus making it easier for the defense.

Today, McDaniel’s also has a top offense that scores a middling number of points. The difference is the new power blocking scheme has resulted in a historically bad running offense. The Broncos are not simply last in the league; they are last by a long ways. Take away one good rushing game and the remainder does meet the definition of being historically terrible. As a result the passing game has had to make up the slack. Unfortunately, McDaniel’s’ offense is not scoring at all the first time it gets the ball. Or the second time. Or at any time in the first quarter. The result is a team that gets behind, starts passing more, gives up on the run, and puts tremendous pressure and stress on the defense.

It has been much publicized that McDaniel’s got rid of pro-bowlers Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall. But other offensive players have left who have then shined on other teams, such as Peyton Hollis and Ryan Train.

In two drafts McDaniel’s has spent 3 first round picks on a running back, a wide receiver, and a quarterback. Essentially, 3 first rounds pick to replace skill position players he has let go or forced off the team. Another way of thinking about this: 3 new players to replace trusted veterans.

As a result of ‘wasting’ first round picks on positions that should have already been solid, talent for the remainder of the team positions has gone neglected.

Imagine instead the existing talent, plus 3 first round picks used on offensive and defensive lineman. That would be a much stronger team. Instead, rather than getting better through the draft the Broncos have not even kept even because rookies typically cannot immediately replace proven veterans.

Basic Boxing Punches

Boxing is a great all around conditioning workout and there are basic boxing punches that you should take the time to learn. Boxing for fitness and fat loss still requires that you are able to move well, keep your hands up and stay strong throughout the workout. But first things first, you need to learn how to thrown a punch properly.

Jab – The (left) jab, while it is on of the least powerful punches, is quite possibly the most important punch in a boxers artillery. Don’t just take my word for it, according to fight statistics; the great Mohammad Ali used jabs more than 90% of the time. Even though they aren’t strong punches they set you up for bigger combos where you can use your power punches below. Because they are a bit weaker and a little more un-natural than other punches it can take a little longer to learn how to throw a jab.

Cross – The (right) cross is the quickest and most direct way to hit an opponent. It will be one of the strongest punches you will use. Because it is easy to learn and is so powerful we us it a lot in boxing combinations. It will be used more than the other power boxing punches and this is the same when it comes to boxers in the ring. In fact the right cross is one of the most preferred knockout punches by many boxers.

The target of the cross is the head of the opponent and provides a fairly good amount of damage when set up by a job or used in combos. These combos can be done for power or speed depending on your training goals. When it follows a jab, this combo is called the “one-two” combination. Simple to learn and very effective (both in the ring and for your home boxing workout).

Hooks – A hook is usually aimed at the chin and can only be done effectively by swinging the arm in a horizontal arc. The wrist and elbow need to be aligned so that you can transfer the power through the punch and not risk injury. Hooks work best when they are set up by a jab and followed by an uppercut or another hook. The hook is another powerful punch (especially from the right) and it has knockout power. The hook is probably the hardest to learn out of all of the basic boxing punches but it is well worth the time getting it right.

Taxes: Why Magic REALLY Sold His Share of the Lakers

This week, it was announced that Magic Johnson sold his 5% stake in the Lakers to billionaire biotech investor and long-time Lakers season ticket holder Patrick Soon-Shying, the 46th-richest individual in the country, according to Forbes magazine.

However, a source not authorized to speak publicly has said that Earvin “Magic” Johnson has also sold 105 of his Starbucks franchises back to the Starbucks Company.

Magic’s long-time agent Lon Rosen said: “it was a very smart business decision on Earvin’s part [to sell].” Keep reading to understand why it was.

First, there is a ton of anticipation for the Lacer’s upcoming season. They are on their way to a potential three-peat. The team is still a contender; Magic is selling on the up trend. Better now than to wait potentially a few years down the line when Kobe isn’t the best player in the game and other teams are winning championships.

However, the most important reason why it was a good business decision is because the capital gains tax that will likely rise from 15 to 20% due to the expiration of the Bush Tax Cut’s at the end of the year.

Any profits made on investments held over the length of one year are subject to the capital gains tax. Magic is avoiding the likely increase by selling his shares of the Lakers and Starbucks.

According to the LA Times, Magic will net about $100 million between the two transactions. This amounts to a significant potential savings for Magic if the Bush Tax Cut’s do indeed expire.

Many investors are selling business, stocks, mutual funds, any investment held over 1 year to avoid paying the additional 5%. Also, the rate may climb over 20% in the years to come.

In 2013, and 3.8% Medicare tax is to be added to investment income. “Investment Income” has not been defined as of yet, but it should likely include capital gains. Meaning that capital gains tax could essentially go to 23.8% from 15% currently. That’s over a 50% increase in the tax.

Magic seems to have some great accountants as well as his business savvy. He sure did pick the right time to sell.

The Appearance of Tennis

Ball games date from the ancient times and the oldest representations can be found in the Egyptian temples in 1500 BC. The ancient Egyptians used to play ball games during their religious rituals. This entire concept of ball games spread in Europe in the eighth century, the influence aching even the South of France. At a certain point, the Christian monks became interested in these religious rituals, being the first Europeans to play the sport we know today as tennis.

The oldest version of tennis was called “La Soule”, the players sending the ball to one another either with their hands or with a stick. Players discovered they had more control over the ball using their hands, so they created a leather glove. It was then just a matter of time until they added a wooden handle to the glove, this turning into the first tennis racket.

The balls were refined, being made of harder or softer wood and leather. The game soon became very popular, especially in France, where the royal family also played it. Therefore, the sport we know today as tennis was developed in France. The French tennis players called this sport “teens”, the sport then being known as royal tennis or real tennis.

This was an inside sport, which was played in spacious areas, with well-built roofs and the winners had to hit the ball against the walls of the gallery. This game is very different from the tennis we know today, the courts today being on grass. Then, the first tennis clubs and tennis courts appeared. This is when tennis started being played on grass. Tennis players could only play in open air after the invention of vulcanized rubber, which prevented the court from being destroyed by the rubber balls.

Winfield was the one who led tennis towards the success it has today. In 1874, he patented a game called Sphairiatike and started announcing the press about it, everybody finding out that tennis was first played in Wales in December 1873. In 1875, Mary Ewing saw the English officers playing tennis in the Bermudas and introduced it in the United States of America, where it was first played at Staten Island Croquet and Baseball Club, where her brother worked as a secretary.
